Chinese Robot Sprinter

From Grauniad of the UK

Athletes are now redundant

This is indeed a case of Life imitating Art:

Interviewed at the end of the race, the humanoid robot was not out of breath and did not look tired. It said, "I feel fine, and I could do another one for you now, if you want, want, re-set, re-start, update, tik-tok, ping, ping, pong, ping, if you want me, me, me, me, wham, bang, tuk, tuk, tuk, to, to."

Personally, however, I think that broadly, all these feats of mechanization are irrelevant to human beings: cheap, chess-playing electronic devices have been available for decades - but human beings still play chess and seek to be Grand Masters...as in Go...

A robot named Lightning has run the 100m in 9.32 seconds, beating the human world record, China’s state broadcaster ‌has reported.
The humanoid, developed by the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor, ‌reached a peak speed of 14.5 metres per second during ‌a test event for the second World Humanoid Robot Games, which began on Saturday.
The performance surpassed the 9.58sec men’s 100m world record set by Usain Bolt 17 years ago at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin.
