Sex & the Self-Driving Car

GIZMAG

Making the most of one's commute: you ain't seen nothing yet!

"Is that the ice-cream van, mate?"

"No, it's Tatyana, the Bielorussian girl, in her self-driving stretched limo, on her evening round."

"What services does she offer?"

"She calls it Uber Personalized Escort & Assist Services Ltd: a true businesswoman, she is, Tatyana."

"Business, what business?"

"£60.00 for a quick one in the back of the vehicle, mate. A real upmarket brothel on wheels, red curtains, thick carpet, king-size bed: 15 mins. Amazing. And you get a free glass of Prosecco. And nibbles."

"Nibbles?"

"Well, peanuts -- and she may nibble your nuts if you pay extra."

"Right. I'm off! See you shortly..."

"You flag her by the side of the road, waving your £50 note."

"Thanks!"

Smiling Car

GIZMAG -- People are the problem...

A smiling car does make sense, if you follow their explanation.

As for me, I would like my fridge to smile at me in the morning, when I walk into the kitchen. "Hello, Babak! Lovely to see you today. How are you?" And so on. Would have to be an intelligent fridge, preferably. Otherwise, it could become very trying, very quickly.

The next step would be for the fridge to have a chat with the toaster, and the toaster to make fun of the washing machine, and so on. Hopefully, any human input (and presence) will soon be totally, utterly redundant.

Around town, drivers and pedestrians communicate using body language and eye contact, something a self-driving car can’t do. To try and solve the problem, a Swedish company has developed a car capable of flashing a smile at pedestrians.

Chevy Volt Tear Down

This vehicle seems more complex than a Space Shuttle! After such vehicles are several years old and have been exposed to vibration, pressure changes due to altitude, dust, salt, water, temperature extremes, etc….. it seems that it'd take a pretty complex repair shop to diagnose a problem. For a vehicle that has 100 microprocessors, what happens if 5% of them fail? How does that affect the car's ability to run correctly? Once out of warranty, will anyone want to own one especially if a problem develops?”

Google Patent

Please take a look at the Google patent application named "Transportation Routing". Its number is US20060149461, available @ http://www.arnoldit.com/lists/google-patents/pat20060149461.pdf

Note the drawing and what is being claimed, not just cars, buses, and trucks: in principle routing of satellites and spaceships. The transportation routing system was done casually. It's an example of how Google can innovate in some very surprising ways that can't be predicted

Google's approach to research and development relies more heavily on mathematicians rather than on software programmers with computer science backgrounds, although the latter still make important contributions to the search engine company's work.

Garmin Development Platform

Garmin International has released a web site for third-party developers who wish to write applications for the Garmin GPS-based navigation systems. It is @ http://developer.garmin.com/.

Potentially other GPS solution providers could follow suite, including cell-phone vendors and in-vehicle telematics providers, by opening their platform to other developers.
